Last night before the CV show, a friend gave me a Poken. I had briefly read about them after Lauren received one back in June (always on the forefront, that Lauren) but admittedly, owning one has now prompted further investigation. Initially I didn’t see much advantage over Textmarks, which allows contacts to text 41411 for your info (an SMS business card, of sorts), but Poken is a visual signifier that your new friend/contact is part of this club. It’s meant to help you share details of your various social networks simply by touching two Poken together. The Poken site is vague about the technology behind this, but I’m curious about the potential for larger-data swaps. And I’d be lying if I said I’m not charmed by tiny Asian effects.
